What is the best way to contact the youth sports department?
Due to the large volume of calls received by Asphalt Green Battery Park City, we ask that you email email@example.com. This allows for a quick and factual response to your inquiry.
Does AG offer trial classes before enrolling in a class?
Currently, we do not offer parents the option of trying our classes before enrolling. Participant numbers and instructors differ from class to class and adding a trial athlete would disrupt the class. We do invite parents to watch classes they are thinking of enrolling their children in, and managers and coaches will be happy to answer any questions about a class.
The class I am trying to register for is full, what do I do now?
You should call 212.298.2980 and speak to a registration associate to be placed on the waitlist. Class rosters and waitlists will be monitored regularly and waitlisted participants will be notified if a spot opens up or a new class is added. We will try to accommodate waitlisted participants as best we can however placement in a class is not guaranteed. Registration associates can also help you register for the same class on a different day, if available. Private lessons can also be booked if there are no other alternate options.
If I am put on a waiting list, should I show up for the class?
No. Being on a waiting list does not mean that you are registered into the class. If someone drops out of the class or if a new class is added, you will be contacted and the registration process will then be completed.
Can I transfer from one class to another?
Yes, however in order to make sure that all of our athletes get the most out of our programs, transfers must be completed before the third week of the session. If the transfer is based on a scheduling conflict, these transfer requests must be made in writing to our membership and registration department. If the transfer is desired based on skill level discrepancy, please speak to the sports program manager or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note that there is a $15 charge to coordinate a request for a change in class.
What is the makeup policy?
Classes meet on specified days and times. Attendance to scheduled classes is the responsibility of the participant. In the case that Asphalt Green cancels a class due to unforeseen, uncontrollable circumstances, we will make every effort to provide a make-up class. In the event a make-up cannot be offered, a credit will be issued upon request.
What is your refund policy?
All refund requests must be submitted in writing to the Registration office. Refunds are computed from the date received (not post marked).
The program refund or program credit schedule is as follows:
- 100% refund – written request must be received 1 week prior to the first scheduled class
- 75% refund – written request must be received 2 days prior to the second scheduled class
NO REFUNDS OR CREDITS
The private lesson refund or program credit schedule is as follows:

Asphalt Green cannot be responsible for providing make-ups, credits or issuing refunds for programs missed as a result of illness, emergencies or other events beyond the control of Asphalt Green. The handling charge for all requested refunds is $15. Please allow four to six weeks from receipt for processing a refund request. Registration handling fees are not refundable.
Can I get a make-up class if my child is sick?
Yes, ONLY IF there is time and space available in a comparable class and term. Simply email us at email@example.com letting us know your child's full name, DOB, and class that was missed. We will reply with days and times available for you to make up the class. If there is no possibility of a make-up, you will also be notified at this time and unfortunately a credit will not be issued. We limit make-up classes to once per term, and after the term is completed these make-ups will not be carried over to the next session.
Will classes be cancelled due to snow or inclement weather?
Classes can be cancelled due to snow or inclement weather. If NYC public schools are closed due to inclement weather, program classes will be cancelled. No make ups, credits or refunds will be offered for cancellations due to inclement weather. Please call our weather hotline at 212.298.2980 before coming to Asphalt Green if you are unsure about program classes running.
How do I know when I do not have class?
We have posted "No Class Dates" in the catalog and on our website. Generally, these dates coincide with major events and holidays. If you suspect your class is not taking place and want to find out, email us or call 212.298.2980 and speak to a customer service representative.
My child is advanced: how do I get them enrolled in an advanced class?
Some classes have different levels to accommodate children of all ages and abilities (Middies vs Developmental). In order for a child to be placed into an advanced class, without prior experience, they should be assessed from one of our coaches. Skill assessments can be done and should be scheduled by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. After this assessment, a determination as to which class best suits the athlete will be made.
My child is too young or too old for a particular class: can they still attend?
Youth sports classes are structured to accommodate a certain age range. These ages are designed to allow for participation at an appropriate level for each child's age and ability, and follow established guidelines for the sports and our knowledge of child development. We have a level for all ages and abilities and will find the right fit for you. Please speak to the sports program manager if you have concerns about the age or skill breakdown of any of our classes.
Do you allow spectators in the classes?
Yes. There will be designated areas for parents/caregivers to observe classes. We do ask that spectators remain in these designated areas as there is limited space in the program areas.
How will I know how my child is progressing?
Our coaches are trained to give constant feedback on a week to week basis to parents when the children are dismissed. Official written feedback cards will be given twice throughout a session, at the halfway point and in the final class.
What should my child wear and bring to class?
Each child should be dressed appropriately and be ready to move. All children must wear sneakers and cleats will not be allowed. Any child not suitably dressed will be deemed unfit for class by the coach.
Equipment is provided for all sports academy classes. However, children are welcome to bring their own baseball gloves, basketballs, or soccer balls if desired. Asphalt Green is not responsible for any lost belongings.
If I register online, how do I get my class card to access the facility?
You can pick up your class card at the Welcome Center. We suggest doing this well in advance of your class starting because the first week can be busy. All participants in our programs must have a facility access card to gain access to the pool or locker rooms, please do not forget these. To replace a lost card the cost is $15. One card per child.
If my child is under 18 months, do you require a doctor's note?
Yes. You will be able to register without it however your child will not be admitted into the first class if we do not have a doctor's note on file. This is mandatory for all class participants under 18 months.
How do I get information about private lessons?
Please email us at email@example.com for more information or for an application form.
